Akufo-Addo delivers 24th national address on Covid-19 tonight as cases surge

President Akufo-Addo will tonight address the nation for the 24th time on the novel coronavirus pandemic as the country’s cases surge.

He is expected to give updates on the Covid-19 vaccine rollout plan which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 for selected segments of the population.

The Information Minister-designate has noted that government officials will publicly take doses of the Covid-19 vaccines before the mass vaccination exercise.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah explained that this is to help demystify the public apprehension about the vaccines.

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) the vaccines will first be administered to health care workers, frontline security personnel, persons with known underlying medical conditions, 60 plus older persons and frontline members of the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary.

Government has given assurances that the procured Covid-19 vaccines has an impressive efficacy rate and is completely protective against severe cases of the virus in the country.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Covid-19 cases have been on the rise.

According to the Ghana Health Service website, as at 24 February, 2021, the country has recorded 626 new Covid-19 cases increasing the country’s active cases to 5,480.

In total there have been 83,212 confirmed cases and 599 deaths.
