Run free Covid-19 test for walk-in requests, travellers to still pay – Health Ministry directs public labs

The Ministry of Health has directed all public health laboratories not to charge persons walk in for Covid-19 testing.

A statement signed by the Acting Chief Director, Kwabena Boadu Oku-Afari indicated that no fee must be taken for requesting a test following ill health, contact tracing and exposure.

“All walk-in requests such as ill-health, contact tracing and exposure must be done free of charge using public heath resources,” the January 27 letter read.

However, the directive indicated the exemptions are made when comes to travellers as they are expected to will continue to pay for their testing.

“Walk-in services can charge ONLY TRAVELLERS for testing,” the statement said.

Ghana has so far confirmed 62,751 Covid-19 cases with 58,561 recoveries and 377 deaths. As of January 23, 2020, 616 new infections had been recorded bring the number of active cases to 3,813.
