KLM cancels flights as storm hits the Netherlands

The Dutch airline KLM cancelled more than 70 flights on Wednesday as a precautionary measure due to an expected storm in the Netherlands.

A spokeswoman for the airline told the ANP news agency that the flights in question were European flights to and from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

The weather service has issued a weather alert for large parts of the country due to the expected storm. It warns of major traffic problems.

From late afternoon, violent winds with gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour are expected along the North Sea coast and in the Wadden Sea area, initially from the west.

The storm is then expected to move east across the country during the evening.
