Ghana Airports Company Welcomes Virgin Atlantic’s Return to Accra

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has warmly welcomed Virgin Atlantic’s decision to resume operations in Ghana starting May 2025. This marks the airline’s return after a hiatus, becoming the 25th international carrier to operate out of Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

Virgin Atlantic’s re-entry is set to enhance Ghana’s aviation sector significantly. The airline will offer daily flights on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, contributing to the growing confidence in Ghana’s aviation industry. This move is expected to bolster the nation’s efforts to establish itself as a premier aviation hub and leader in West Africa’s airport business.

Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of GACL, expressed her excitement over the announcement. She stated, “We are thrilled to welcome Virgin Atlantic back to Ghana, which will become the 25th international airline to operate at Kotoka International Airport. We look forward to collaborating with Virgin Atlantic to ensure a seamless launch of their operations and continued facilitation at the airport.”

With the increasing number of airlines operating out of Ghana, GACL has also announced plans to optimize the use of Terminal 2 at KIA. This strategy will help decongest Terminal 3, reduce long queues, and improve travel experiences for both passengers and airlines. Further details regarding these developments will be shared with the public following stakeholder engagements.

The return of Virgin Atlantic is expected to offer travelers more connectivity options, linking passengers from Ghana to various global destinations. This move is poised to strengthen Accra’s standing in the international travel landscape, providing more opportunities for business and leisure travelers alike.
